The Benefits of BOTOX®

BOTOX®, also known as Botulinum toxin (Type A) is a cosmetic injection that is used to reduce the look of lines and wrinkles caused by repetitive movements. BOTOX® works by blocking the nerve signals that cause your muscles to contract, relaxing and smoothing the overlying skin.

When to consider BOTOX®

You might consider BOTOX® if:

  • You have deep lines between your eyes that make you appear tired, angry or upset
  • Your facial expressions have created lines in and around your eyes and forehead
  • Your experience facial asymmetry that can be corrected by relaxing a muscle

BOTOX® is a relatively painless procedure that is low risk and will cause you little or no downtime. It can make you appear less angry, tired and upset, and can give you a refreshed and well rested look. However, the effects of the injections typically only last about 3 to 6 months, and there is a risk of developing a droopy eye or muscle if the injection is done incorrectly. That is why you should only trust a doctor or Registered Nurse with your injectable procedures. Some individuals also experience bruising if the area injected is sensitive.

Am I a good candidate?

You might consider BOTOX® for cosmetic reasons if your common facial movements are creating unwanted lines and wrinkles on your face. When these lines develop depends on a variety of genetic factors, and can develop as early as your late twenties or as late as your early forties. If you are prone to developing lines and wrinkles because of your common facial expressions you may also want to consider BOTOX® as a preventative measure.

Not all wrinkles and creases can be treated with BOTOX®. Some wrinkles and creases are caused by weakening or sinking of the soft tissue, such as the nasolabial folds which extend from the sides of the nose down to the corners of the mouth. These creases are best treated with fillers, fat grafts or surgery, though BOTOX® can occasionally soften or partial reduce the look of these lines.
