What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is an advanced skin care treatment which uses a chemical solution (such as glycolic acid) to gently exfoliate outer layers of dead skin, revealing a new skin layer with improved tone, texture and color.

There are three basic types of chemical peels:

Superficial or ‘Lunchtime’ Chemical Peel

Also known as glycolic acid peels, this chemical peel removes the upper layer of dead and damaged skin and encourages skin cell regeneration.

This skin care treatment can be used for:

  • Mild skin discoloration
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Chronic dry skin
Medium Chemical Peel

Beta-hydroxy or trichloroacetic acid is used to penetrate the outer and middle layers of skin to remove damaged skin cells.

This skin care treatment can be used for:

  • Improving age spots
  • Eliminating fine lines and wrinkles
  • Moderate skin discoloration
  • Treat some precancerous growths (e.g. actinic keratosis)
Deep Chemical Peel

This is the most aggressive type of chemical peel. Trichloroacetic acid is applied to deeply penetrate the skin and remove any damaged cells.

It is used to treat more serious imperfections such as:

  • Acne scars
  • Blotchiness
  • Deep wrinkles and facial lines
  • Age spots

A deep chemical peel gives the most dramatic results and only a single treatment is required.

At our skin care clinic, our chemical peels begin with a consultation to assess your personal aesthetic goals, skin type and particular concerns so that our specialists can select the appropriate medical grade peel for you.

This ensures that you will experience the best results in the shortest time frame possible.

Am I a Candidate for a Chemical Peel?

In general, light-haired and fair-skinned people are the best candidates for chemical peels. It doesn’t work as effectively on patients with darker skin tones.

This skin care treatment is NOT RECOMMENDED for patients who:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have certain skin conditions such as rosacea, dermatitis, eczema or psoriasis
  • Have an infection or broken skin at the treatment site
  • Have active herpes simplex sores at the treatment site

During your consultation, our skin care specialists can best determine whether or not you are a candidate for this procedure.
